Help Florida Music Programs Affected by Natural Disasters
While school districts work to help schools recover from Hurricanes, Flooding, and Fires, immediate needs exist.
Teachers are posting their program and student needs. We want students in these affected programs to experience the joy of participating in music, and we don't want them to have to wait.
How to Help
1. Donate to the Mel and Sally Schiff Music Education Relief Fund on our Donation Page. This was a fund started by our board member Fred Schiff in honor of his parents shortly after Hurricane Irma in 2017. A committee will meet to determine the distribution of funds among the schools that have submitted Help Requests.
2. You can also browse the list of needs submitted by our schools and contact the teachers directly to let them know how you can help. Even if you don't have the specific items requested, perhaps there is another way you can help them recover. Click the button below to browse the requests, and then click a school name to find out how to help.
Request Help for your Music Program
Florida Teachers and Music Supervisors: to submit a help request, click below and log in with your FMEA account. Help requests can include equipment, materials, performance attire, moral support from other programs, or anything else your program or your students may need. Photographs of damage can be submitted but are optional. Once your request has been fulfilled, please log in again to edit or remove your listing.
FMEA will help in two ways:
- Through our marketing efforts, we will be encouraging our members, Corporate and Academic Partners, Advertisers, Exhibitors, and other friends of music education across the country to browse your requests for items they may be able to donate to you directly.
- An FMEA committee will be reviewing all requests and distributing funds from donations to the Mel and Sally Schiff Music Education Relief Fund to select programs with the greatest need.
