The very core of FMEA is its membership. Membership in the association speaks volumes about an individual’s commitment toward music education and the association’s credibility in representing the music education profession.

Membership Overview

Members enjoy exclusive access to FMEA’s services and benefits, such as eligibility to participate in All-State and attend the Annual Professional Development Conference. Individual FMEA memberships also also include a membership with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and eligibility to become a member of any FMEA component association.*

Join or Renew Your Membership

Membership Year: FMEA implements a membership year that begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th of the following year. All FMEA memberships purchased after April 1st will be current through June 30th of the following year.

For EDUCATORS & ADMINISTRATORS:

Full Active Member
Individuals currently teaching, supervising, or administrating in K-12 schools or in higher education.

Active NAfME Life Member
NAfME Life Members who are still teaching. *Does not include NAfME Membership. A life membership through NAfME must already be purchased.

Introductory Member
First-year teachers only.

For RETIREES:

Retired Member
For those who have retired from the teaching, supervision, or administration of music in K-12 schools or higher education.

Retired NAfME Life Member 
For NAfME Life Members who are retired. *Does not include NAfME Membership. A life membership through NAfME must already be purchased.

For  STUDENTS:

Collegiate Student Membership
Current college students preparing to become music educators.

Tri-M Music Honor Society
For student musicians in grades 6 through 12. Talk to your school’s chapter liaison about membership requirements, or visit musichonors.com

For NON-TEACHING INDIVIDUALS:

Associate - Individual 
Individuals not currently teaching who want to support music education. *This option does not include an NAfME membership, and  is ineligible to join component organizations or participate in All-State.

Associate - Organization
Organizations such as booster groups or community music groups. *This option does not include an NAfME membership, and is ineligible to join component organizations or participate in All-State. For advertising and exhibitor opportunities, visit our Corporate and Academic Partnership page.

Full Active Spousal Member 
Spouses of current Full Active Members who do not teach music.

Retired Spousal Member 
Spouses of current Retired Members and who do not teach music.

Component Organizations

FMEA serves as the umbrella organization for seven component organizations that offer music education programs and events that pertain to their particular area. Members of FMEA are encouraged to join the FMEA component that represents their specialty. In order for your students to be eligible to participate in All-State, the music director must hold a Full Active FMEA membership and an “Active” membership with their component organization(s). 

All component organizations require their members to also have current, eligible FMEA and NAfME memberships. If you are joining or renewing your membership online, you will have the opportunity to add a component membership before submitting a payment. All purchased component memberships will have the same membership year as the accompanying FMEA membership.  The current component organizations are:

Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA)
The membership organization for band directors. FBA’s chief purpose is to promote, expand, and improve the band programs in Florida schools, and provide professional growth for band directors.

Florida Orchestra Association (FOA)
The membership organization for orchestra and string educators. FOA provides programs and activities for orchestras and string programs, and professional development to its members.

Florida Vocal Association (FVA)
The membership organization for vocal music. FVA’s chief purpose is to promote and develop interest in vocal and general music, the continued improvement of school choral groups in Florida’s secondary schools, and the professional development of choral directors.

Florida Elementary Music Education Association (FEMEA)
The membership organization for elementary music educators. FEMEA’s chief purpose is to unite and strengthen the professional standing of all elementary music teachers in order to encourage more effective teaching of music.

Florida Collegiate Music Educators Association (FCMEA)
The membership organization for college music educators. FCMEA’s chief purpose is to address the concerns unique to music programs in colleges, universities, and community colleges.

Florida Music Supervisors’ Association (FMSA)
The membership organization for music supervisors. FMSA deals with curriculum standards, facilities, and programs from the perspective of county level administrators

Florida Corporate and Academic Partners (FCAP)

The FMEA Corporate and Academic Partner Membership program provides working relationships and meaningful benefits for FMEA’s sponsors, vendors, and advertisers. FCAP membership is available to any corporate or education institution interested in the general advancement of music education in the State of Florida.

FCAP members receive discounts on advertising and exhibit spaces, exclusive sponsorship opportunities, and recognition online and in each Florida Music Director magazine.
